Put booking on your own website or app and connect it to Zelun
What it is
If you already have your own website or your own app and want your clients to book there instead of on Zelun's booking page, you can connect them. Your site shows the services, the free times and the form; Zelun still decides availability, consent and payments, with the same rules as its own booking page.
Each location has a booking key. Zelun generates it for you when the location is created, and you do not type it. It identifies that location when your site asks for its services or free times. It only works for those public booking steps: it gives no access to the administration of your business, to another location, or to any client's history. Using one location's key with another is refused.
You register your site and switch it on in the Custom booking frontend section of My business. Only the owner can manage this. The technical part is built by whoever builds your site, with a separate technical guide; this article covers what you decide and set up.
Before you start
- Have your site published on a domain you own, with a secure address (https). Test addresses on your own computer only work in the isolated test environment, not in production.
- Have someone who can add a record in your domain's settings, which is how you prove the domain is yours.
- Decide which locations your site connects to. Each registration only gives access to the locations you tick, and they must belong to your own business.
- Be aware that private appointment links can leave that appointment visible to the site you approve. Use this only with a site you trust.
Steps
Register your site
- Open My business and go to Custom booking frontend.
- Fill in Integration name, Verified hostname (your site's domain, for example book.example.com), Allowed browser origin (your site's full address) and Appointment management URL, where your clients will see and change their appointment.
- Tick the locations you want to connect under Branches.
- Press Save registration. If you are not sure what to enter, ask whoever builds your site.
Prove the domain is yours and switch it on
- While the domain is not verified, your site's registration shows a text record you need to create in your domain's settings. Ask whoever manages your domain to create it.
- Once it exists, press Verify DNS. Without verification the site cannot be switched on for real clients.
- When your site is ready, Activate appears: press it.
- Before or after, press Test configuration. It checks that the domain is yours, that the origin is allowed, that the management address is set and that the location is available. If something is missing, it tells you what and how to fix it, and it does not say booking worked. Testing never creates a real appointment or a charge. If it comes back incomplete, finish what is missing.
- To change details, press Edit, then Save changes. If you change the production domain, it has to be verified again, and earlier appointments are not silently rerouted to a domain nobody reviewed.
Stop using it
- Press Disable. Your site can no longer book and Zelun stops handing it private appointment links.
- Disabling cannot take back a private link that was already delivered. That is why you should only switch it on for a site you trust.
What your clients see
- They book on your site as guests, without creating a Zelun account. Availability, deposit, cancellation and consent rules are the same as on Zelun's booking page.
- If a payment has to be completed on Zelun, the client goes through a Zelun page and comes back to a safe result page. Coming back does not by itself prove the payment went through.
- Reminders for an appointment made from your site can lead to your own appointment management page, if you set one up.
- For gifts and other features your site does not handle, the link goes to the matching Zelun page.
- If you disable the site, a client who opens a link they already had lands on Zelun's page to manage their appointment, not on your site.
Common mistakes
- Treating the booking key as an administration password. It only works for the public booking steps.
- Trying to switch it on without verifying the domain. Verify it first.
- Entering an address other than your site's in Allowed browser origin. Only the exact address you registered is allowed.
- Disabling and assuming links already sent are recalled. Disabling stops future deliveries; it cannot recover a link already delivered.
- Expecting the test to book an appointment. Testing creates no appointments or charges.
