Choose which messages you get from a business

What it is

A business can message you in two ways. Messages about your visit, such as a confirmation, a reminder or a change, always reach you, and so does a short message saying the business shared a new document with you (it only carries a link, never what the document is). The article on your documents explains it. Promotions, such as an invitation to book again, only reach you if you agreed to them, and you can stop them whenever you like.

A clinic can also let you write to it on WhatsApp about your care. The first time you write, it asks once whether you agree: I agree lets you talk about your care there, and Appointments only keeps the chat to your appointments. You can change your answer by answering again, and the clinic never writes clinical details in the messages it sends you.

Before you start

  1. You need the link from one of your booking messages. It opens your booking page, which also holds your message preferences.
  2. The link stops working once the visit has passed or has been cancelled. Use the link from a newer booking after that.

Steps

Turn promotions on or off

  1. Open the link from your booking message and find How we contact you.
  2. Tick or untick the promotions box. The exact words you agree to are shown next to it.
  3. Press Save preferences.

Choose how you get booking updates

  1. In the same section, tick WhatsApp, Text message (SMS), or both.
  2. Press Save preferences.

Stop promotions from a message

  1. Reply with the word stop, baja or alto to a promotion, or press the stop promotions button on it.
  2. The business confirms once and tells you how to turn promotions back on.

What happens next

Promotions stop right away, including any that were waiting to be sent. Your reminders and changes to your visits keep coming. If you change your mind, tick the promotions box again on your booking page.

Common mistakes

  • Replying cancel to cancel a visit. On a reminder, cancel cancels your visit. On a promotion, it stops promotions. If you meant to cancel a visit, use your booking page.
  • Expecting reminders to stop with promotions. They do not. They belong to your booking.
  • Using an old link. A link from a visit that is over no longer opens your preferences.

Related articles

The article on booking messages explains the confirmations and reminders you get, and the article on changing or cancelling covers your visit itself.

You can also save or remove your birthday on this page, with day and month only. Adding it does not turn on promotions; you choose that permission separately.
