The mobile app for booking with a business
What it is
This is a phone app for booking a visit with a business and keeping track of your appointments and packages. It is not available to download yet, so you cannot get it from an app store today; to book now, use the business's booking page in your phone's browser.
Once it is out, you will add a business by pasting the booking link the business shared with you, or by opening that link on your phone. The app keeps a short list of the businesses you have added, and you can switch between them. Inside the app, each business shows its own name, its logo and its accent colour. If a business has not set those up, or its logo does not load, you see the app's default look and booking works the same.
Once installed, booking and short links on book.zelun.io will open that business directly in the app. Without the app, the complete booking page opens; installing the app is optional.
Quote and order screens are planned for a later app version. Until they are available, a notification about a quote or order opens Appointments; use the secure link in the business's message to review a quote, sign or reject it, see an order's stages and photos, or pay a deposit or balance in your browser. The quote and order screens will open directly from notifications when that version is released.
Before you start
- The booking link from the business.
- Your name and your phone number. You can book without an account.
- To see your appointments, your waitlist and your packages you need to be signed in. You sign in inside the app with your phone number, and the number must be the one you booked with.
- The newer screens and messages follow your phone's language, English or Spanish. Some older screens, such as the booking steps, are still in English only.
Steps
- The first time, the app shows Open a booking link. Paste the link into the box and tap Open.
- The app checks the link before saving it. If it shows "That doesn't look like a booking link." or "We couldn't open that location. Check the link and try again.", check that you pasted the whole link and try again. Nothing is saved when this happens.
- Under Book a visit, tap a service. On Pick a time, choose a Stylist, a Date and a Time, then tap Continue, which shows the price. The times shown are the openings in the next two weeks.
- If the day you want is full, the Time area shows a card saying so. See Join a full day below.
- Under Your details, type your Full name and Phone, then tap Confirm booking. The app shows "You're booked" with the date and time. Tap Book another to book again, or View my appointments.
- To add another business, tap My places, then Open a booking link. In My places you can tap a business to switch to it (the current one is marked Current) or tap Remove to take it off the list. Tap Back to booking to return.
- Open the Appointments tab to see your appointments and their status, with Upcoming, Past and Waiting. Open the Packages tab to see what you have left, such as visits or a balance, and when it expires. Both need you to be signed in. If you are not, they show a Sign in button. Enter your phone, tap Text me a code, type the 6-digit code and tap Verify and sign in. If no visit is found for that number, the app says to book a visit first.
Join a full day
- On Pick a time, choose a day with no openings. A card titled This day is full appears with Join the waitlist.
- If you are not signed in, it asks you to sign in first.
- Under Times that work, choose Any time, Morning, Afternoon or Evening. If more than one person works there, under With choose Anyone or one person.
- Tap Join the waitlist. The card says you are on the waitlist for that day. If spots just opened that day, the app tells you to pick a time instead. There is a limit on how many waitlists you can be on at once.
Answer an offer from the Waiting tab
- Open Appointments and the Waiting segment. It lists your waitlists, each with Leave waitlist. If you are on none, it says so.
- When a spot opens, the offer is pinned at the top: the service, the time and who it is with, a countdown, Claim this spot and No thanks. If a deposit is needed, the claim button shows the amount. If paying it is not available in your version of the app, it tells you to use the link we sent by WhatsApp or email.
- No thanks clears the offer and you keep your place on the waitlist. If the spot was taken or the offer ran out, the app says so.
- If you turned on notifications, you also get a push notification when a spot opens, and tapping it opens the offer. The app asks first, with Turn on notifications or Not now, and says it sends no marketing. WhatsApp or email messages are still sent first.
Favorites, your details and the series
- While signed in, tap the heart where you choose who to book with to add that person to your favorites; favorites are listed first. You can also mark someone from your past appointments. The full list is under Account → Favorites, with a button to book with each person.
- Account → My details shows your name and phone (the phone is how you sign in; to change it, ask the business). To change your email, type the new one, tap Send code, enter the 6-digit code that arrives at that address and tap Confirm. Your email does not change until you enter the code.
- If an appointment belongs to a series, Appointments shows View series with the upcoming dates, to skip one, change one or cancel the series.
Widget and Siri Shortcut
- Widget: press and hold your home screen and add the Zelun widget (iOS) or the Zelun widget (Android), in small or medium size. It shows the business, service, day and time of your next appointment; tapping it opens the app on Appointments. With no upcoming appointment it says so, and tapping it opens booking. It refreshes whenever you open the app and works offline with what it last loaded.
- Siri Shortcut (iPhone): in the Shortcuts app, find Zelun and add Rebook, or say "Rebook in Zelun". It opens Quick rebook: the same service with the same person as your last visit at their first free time, with Book or See other times.
- You need to be signed in for the widget to show your account's appointments and for quick rebook; without signing in, the widget shows the appointments you booked from this phone.
What happens next
- Your list of businesses stays on your phone only, with the most recently opened first. It keeps a limited number, so the oldest one drops off when you add too many.
- When you reopen the app, it takes you back to the business you used last.
- Each package has an Add to Wallet button. It does not give you a pass for your phone's wallet yet; after you tap it, it only shows "Added (pending Apple/Google setup)".
- If a business cannot be loaded, the app shows "Could not load this location." with Try again. Your saved businesses stay on the list.
- When your phone is offline, a banner says "You're offline. Showing what we last loaded." with Retry, and actions that need a connection ask you to reconnect.
Common mistakes
- Waiting for a business list to choose from. The app has no search or directory; you add a business only with its booking link.
- Expecting to cancel any appointment from the Appointments tab. Cancel appears only for an appointment you booked in the same visit to the app. For any other, use the link in your confirmation or contact the business.
- Expecting the app on your home screen to take the business's name or icon. The app keeps its own name and icon; the business's look appears only inside it.
- Signing in with a different phone number than the one you booked with. The app then finds no visits for you. Use the same number, or book a visit first.
- Leaving a waitlist while an offer is open. Answer the offer first, then leave.
